LBJ & Vietnam

How did the United States get involved in the internal conflict in Vietnam? What led to the escalation of America's involvement?

This is a Socratic style seminar conducted as a conversation utilizing primary source documents that the origins and escalation of America’s involvement in the Vietnam War with a focus on Lyndon Johnson’s understanding of and approach to the war during his presidency. This seminar is based on primary documents and will help shed light on the rational for LBJ’s efforts in Vietnam as well as the challenges and issues he faced there. All primary source documents will be provided to educators 10 days prior to the seminar date. It is highly encouraged for participants to read these documents prior to attending.

Teaching Texas History (to be offered starting in 2025 or by request)
up to 6 CPE credits for the set
FREE - Pre-registration is required.

The museum offers free outreach programs and travel trunks that are specific to Texas history and meet TEKS for 4th and 7th grade. Museum programming is cross-disciplinary and has a focus on creativity, writing, historic exploration, decision making, and critical thinking. These 3 hour workshops will provide information on these resources that can be added to your current curriculum. The workshops will also include a chance to try some of the fun and engaging educational activities provided in our outreach programs and travel trunks. Finally, you'll have time to work with your colleagues to brainstorm ways to incorporate these great assets into your curriculum for next year! The workshops are offered as a set but can be attended individually as well.
Group 1 - Native Americans, the Texas Revolution, the Chisholm Trail, and Pioneer Life
Group 2 - WWI, the Great Depression, and WWII



Early Childhood Learning with the Museum (offered by request)
2.5 CPE credits
FREE - Pre-registration is required.

This 2.5 hour workshop will provide information on the different resources offered by the museum that can be added to your current curriculum. These resources include school field trips, classroom outreach programs, and travel trunks. Museum programming is cross-disciplinary and has a focus on fine motor skills, decision making, and critical thinking. The workshop will include a private tour of the museum highlighting the different interactive elements and activities available to students on school field trips followed by a chance to try some of the fun and engaging educational activities provided in our outreach programs and travel trunks. Finally, you'll have time to work with your colleagues to brainstorm ways to incorporate these great assets into your curriculum for next year!



Curating a Great History Fair Project (offered by request)
2 CPE credits
FREE - Pre-registration is required.

History Fair projects provide a chance for students to be creative while also developing reading, writing, and reasoning skills. These projects also build valuable research and communications skills that are important for future endeavors. This 2 hour workshop will provide information on the various free resources available at the museum for your students as they work on these projects, including an interactive outreach program that will teach your students the importance of historic research and how to best represent this information in exhibits and written text.

Inservice Programs

Museum staff is available to visit your school for professional development. Teachers will be introduced to free resources available through the museum including: tours, traveling trunks, and outreach programs. During this presentation, teachers will gain first-hand experience with some of the programs available for classroom use!
